Artist John Simpkins is the sole human inhabitant of a ghost town in Oregon’s Alvord Desert. His paintings of animals are inspired by the magic he finds there. He is a master of light, shadow, and the drama of the changing weather as it changes his environment. Living where he does has prompted him to create large paintings, some so tall he has to climb a ladder to reach the top. His connection with the flora and fauna that surrounds him within the solitude of the desert allows him to be present in the moment and paint whatever arises from his consciousness. The four images in this notecard assortment reflect the spiritual dimension of the world around him.
